The Havana Castro Will Never Let You See - Part I

Yesterday, I received an email from one of my cousins. He attached a set of photos depicting scenes from Havana that I had not seen before.

I had no idea that Havana's infrastructure was so dilapidated. The images were taken in areas of the city that few visitors ever see. Tour guides don't take their tours to these places and the Castro government certainly doesn't want the outside world to see these kinds of scenes. But they exist.

It's not the Latin American fantasy that is sold to prospective visitors, but it's real life for the Cuban people.

I posted them on my Facebook page under the title of "The Havana That Castro Will Never Let You See" and by the end of the day I received hundreds of likes, comments. The album had also been shared by many.

Several people sent me messages or posted comments wanting to show the images to family but their family members were not registered on Facebook. They asked if the photos were available for viewing on the Internet, perhaps on my website or in a Blog.

They weren't. They were only on Facebook. So I decided to post the images here so they could be shared and viewed by anyone who is not on Facebook.

The real Havana. It's not the one you've probably seen depicting shiny restored cars or tourist hotels, but it exists just like this.
